Hello, my name is Meg! I have been an animal lover for my entire life. Since a young child I have deeply cared about the welfare of animals. I strongly advocate that every animal is deserving of care, love and respect. From guinea pigs, rabbits, reptiles and hamsters to dogs and cats to horses - you name the pet, I have probably had one! My whole life has revolved around my animals. I have rescued countless animals over the years and I currently have rescue lizards, two rescue cats, a hamster and lots of fish!
My history
I have been in the veterinary industry since the day I left school in 2018. I qualified as a veterinary care assistant (VCA) in 2019, and then a registered veterinary nurse and companion animal suitably qualified person (RVN C-SQP) in May 2022 and I went on to complete further certification in the advanced nursing of reptiles and amphibians (APVN-Herp) in July 2023. I have worked alongside Hills Pet Food company as a Nutritional Ambassador and I have completed various courses over the years including a veterinary diabetes advsior course with MSD. I've worked in a busy independent first opinion veterinary hospital in Bedford and a small independent village vets in Ampthill - I may be a familiar face in the town as I embark on this new journey! I continue to maintain my nursing registration through continued professional development and I offer ad-hoc locum services to veterinary practices.
Why did I found Four Paws With Meg?
I founded Four Paws With Meg following the tragic and traumatic loss of my beloved dog Cookie. Cookie went missing on the 14th of August 2024 whilst she was on holiday with my parents. She escaped from their garden when a gate blew open in the wind. The second my mum notified me that Cookie was missing I drove all the way to the holiday park where I proceeded to spend the most tortuous month searching for her. My whole life was put on hold, I gave up work to kayak rivers, cover miles of ground on foot, learn about tracking dogs, camp out in my car for sleepless nights and I even learnt how to fly a drone. I never gave up hope that I would find her. But on the 30th of September 2024, my whole world was turned upside down when Cookie was recovered from the River Ouse. It was a freak accident, and she must've fallen into the river on that fateful night. I felt as though I would never be able to cope with the loss of Cookie. I felt and still feel the immense pain and guilt following her loss every second of every day. I vowed that I would do something in the future in her memory to try to prevent somebody else from having to go through the horrific ordeal that our family went through.
I have had a lot of time to reflect upon the summer of 2024 and I am still shocked by the number of people and organisations who had been so caring and helpful during the most horrific time of my life. The pet owner community is nothing short of incredible and I am grateful to be surrounded by like-minded pet lovers. In particular I am forever grateful to Sam and the team at Thermal Drone Support Bedfordshire, who helped me to find the strength to turn my pain into purpose and I am now proud to be a drone pilot and a trustee for the charity Thermal Drone Support Bedfordshire (Charity number 1210148).
My mission
Founding 'Four Paws With Meg' has helped me to find my purpose and to advocate for every pet's safety and for all pets to wear GPS trackers. Before Cookie went missing I never truly understood the value of a pet tracker, you never think this nightmare would happen to you. But unforgiving accidents can happen to anybody when you least expect it. If Cookie was wearing a pet tracker, maybe that night would have turned out differently.
And that is why and how my venture 'Four Paws With Meg' started. I am not just your average pet care services provider and dog walker, I aspire to be different than the rest and give you the peace of mind that your pet's safety and quality of care is my upmost priority. I can assure you that I will treat your pet as I would my own and to use my knowledge and skillset to ensure that I am giving them the best possible care. I promise to truly do everything in my power to keep your pet as safe, happy and comfortable during the times when you need a helping hand.
